The new track will be launched in September 2024 in the Master's Programme ‘Cell and Molecular Biotechnology’ at the HSE Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology. Students will master modern methods of plant genetic and cellular engineering, genetic and marker selection, genome editing, and acquire skills in the bioinformatic processing of plant genomic data.

A student of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science, Andrey Kuznetsov, has become the winner of the 2024 Data Fusion Contest. The competition took place as part of the 2024 Data Fusion conference on big data and AI technologies. Researchers from HSE University presented the results of their work and demonstrated applied developments at the conference.

HSE Art and Design School, in collaboration with the Pobeda Airlines, has announced the start of a competition to create a new uniform design for flight attendants and representatives of the airline. Young professional designers, as well as students studying at Russian universities in the field of ‘Design and Fashion,’ will have the opportunity to showcase their talent.

On April 25, 2024 the first graduates of the HSE Film Institute Master’s Programme ‘Film Production’ made their presentations at Gorky Film Studio. The academic supervisor of the programme, Polina Ilyina, proposed a speed dating format for the event. This allowed each student to present their script ideas to significant figures in the film industry, which will form the basis of future projects.

Egor Sedov initially planned to pursue a career in programming but instead became captivated by experimental physics. In this interview with the HSE Young Scientists project, he spoke about the quantum effect and the quantum standard, a scientist's letter from the future, and the magnetic levitation of a frog.

In April, the HSE building on Pokrovka hosted two movie nights: one on the Day of Russian Animation, and other on the Day of Culture. The events allowed international students to get acquainted with Russian culture through works of cinematography. Each student enjoyed popcorn while studying detailed information about the movie on special printouts.

Since 2022, HSE University and the Southern Federal University (SFedU) have been implementing a joint bachelor's programme ‘The Caucasus and the Middle East in the System of Regional and International Relations.’ In late April 2024, some of the top students from the programme were invited for a week to HSE University, where they participated in various educational and scientific events.

Researchers at the HSE Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience conducted an experiment to clarify the role the parietal cortex plays in decision-making in the context of risk. They found that suppression of activity in the parietal cortex resulted in subjects being less inclined to take risks. A paper with the study findings has been published in Cerebral Cortex.

The Study Tour Experience is a project for those who want to experience HSE student life and upgrade their CVs. In the fall semester of the 2024/25 academic year, the Study Tour Experience is planned for November 11–23, 2024.
