Armenian School Students Visit HSE University
The HSE International Admissions Office hosted another campus tour for schoolchildren at HSE University on Pokrovsky Bulvar. This time, more than 50 students aged 10–15 from Armenia came to HSE University in Moscow as part of a three-week trip organised with the support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Rossotrudnichestvo.

According to Svetlana Vasilenko, Director of the Education & Training Advisory Centre, the Pokrovka campus tour was designed to allow guests to experience the unique atmosphere of university life and gain impressions that will help them choose their educational path.
Vasilenko adds that, regardless of the age, school students who visit HSE University will remember their experience for the rest of their lives. The HSE International Admissions Office recalls cases when school students from different countries, who attended HSE events years before admission, later enrolled in university programmes.
The campus tour began with a lecture on the history of HSE and the opportunities it offers to international students, delivered by Maxim Markin, Senior Lecturer at HSE Faculty of Social Sciences. To keep the students engaged, Markin illustrated his lecture with images and videos and interacted with the audience.
Maxim Markin mentioned that the HSE University was founded 32 years ago, during a time when the countries that had previously been part of the Soviet Union were starting to build market economies and needed economists who were trained in a new way and were in demand on the labour market. Since then, HSE University has also provided training in many other fields, with the exception of medicine.
After the lecture, the guests were divided into three groups and accompanied by an employee from the HSE International Admissions Office and student volunteers. The students then visited the main buildings of HSE University on Pokrovsky Bulvar, including the library, where Deputy Director Maria Bituleva gave a tour of the main reading room.
Later, the students explored the Durasov House, taking pictures in the atrium and talking with students and staff from the International Admissions Office who explained the admissions process at HSE University, and had lunch in the cafeteria. One of the highlights of the campus tour was a win-win lottery: each participant could win a pen, pencil, notebook, or other HSE University souvenirs.
The participants of the campus tour shared their impressions. Svetlana Danilyan, who recently graduated from the ninth grade, heard about HSE University from a friend who was planning to apply to one of its programmes. As a result, Svetlana had the opportunity to visit the university campus herself. ‘It’s a huge building—you could easily get lost here!’ she exclaimed. ‘Students from different countries study here and, thanks to their education, they easily find jobs and earn large salaries.’
Svetlana has a passion for acting and has studied in a theatre club for several years. She learned about the Film Institute at HSE University during her campus tour and is now considering applying for the ‘Drama and Film Acting’ programme.
Edgar Petrosyan, who has just graduated from the eighth grade, has not yet thought about his future studies. However, HSE University impressed him as well—he considered the Pokrovka campus as one of Moscow landmarks, along with the Moscow City Complex and Red Square. He said, ‘It's a beautiful building, and I've never seen anything like it. There are lots of interesting books in the library, including books on geography, my favourite subject.’

‘We Will Be Glad to See Winners of the Olympiad among Our Prospective Students’
In early April, the final round of the engineering profile of the Moscow Pre-Professional Olympiad was held at HSE MIEM. Fifty teams (about 200 school students) from Moscow took part in the competition. As a result, 52 participants received awards.
Applications for Study Tour Experience Close February 13
Applications are still open for the Study Tour Experience, an international programme for international students who are considering applying for HSE master’s programmes this year. Participants (who will be selected as part of a competition) will be able to attend lectures and seminars at HSE University from February 21 to March 5. Participation is free of charge.

Prepare for a Degree in Russian at HSE
HSE’s Preparatory Year at the Faculty of Pre-University Training equips students who have little or no knowledge of Russian language with the necessary skills to enter Russian-taught Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes. Students begin by studying Russian language and then go on to study specific subjects in Russian-taught classes. They receive conditional acceptance to HSE full-degree programmes.
