HSE Master’s programmes are not only popular among Russian bachelor’s graduates but applicants from CIS countries as well. Adil Khaziev and Zafar Makhsudaliev discuss why pursuing a Master’s degree at HSE is a good choice for international students and what key advantages HSE University has to offer.

I’m from Almaty, a city in the Republic of Kazakhstan. I am currently completing my first year of the HSE Master’s programme in Financial Markets and Institutions.

Although I considered many universities in various countries, Russia seemed to me the most attractive option. This country offers excellent education at a reasonable price. Moreover, I am fluent in Russian so it was easy for me to apply and enroll.

I applied remotely. I didn’t have any problems: everything was easy and clear. I think I had a couple of technical questions to sort out, but I wrote to HSE International Student Support and they replied immediately. After an interview and a portfolio competition, I was happy to be awarded a 50% tuition discount.

I quickly adapted to my new life as a student. I’ve got some relatives in Moscow, so I’ve visited this city many times before. The Russian capital is very much like my native city, but Moscow is more crowded and much larger. I’d also say the pace of life is faster here.

All in all, I’m really enjoying my studies at HSE.

I think the key advantage of this university is that it offers great opportunities to bring your ideas and initiatives to life. HSE University has created a stimulating environment to foster and support students’ success

I would highly recommend HSE University to international students. This university will do everything to encourage you to expand your knowledge and skills in the academic area of your choice. Moreover, most of the students and teachers are extremely friendly to foreigners—you will never feel like a black sheep.

I come from the Namangan region of Uzbekistan. This is my first year in the Master in International Management programme of the HSE Graduate School of Business.

HSE was a conscious choice for me. I monitored its standing in the QS ranking closely and I saw that the university has made remarkable progress (from 500th to 298th over the past six years). I also learned about the University’s admissions evaluation system (the requirements are very strict indeed). After such a rigorous selection process, I knew I would be studying alongside only the best. The Master in International Management programme meets all my expectations, as I would like to do research in business management.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Federal University (NArFU), Arkhangelsk, so I’ve got something to compare HSE student life with. The quality of HSE education, its atmosphere, students and teachers are much better than I have experienced before. I really like our university because of its conveniently located and easily accessible campuses, its mentor programmes that we can use to look for a job and make business career plans, the library that is open 24/7, and, of course, the atmosphere: successful classmates, friendly professors, and comfortable classrooms.

I recommend HSE to students from abroad because our university has a good international reputation. You can combine your studies with an internship at a major multinational company, both in Russia and abroad

Moreover, our university offers a good number of double-degree and academic mobility programmes, which can help you build a career in an international company.

HSE University welcomes applicants from across the globe. You can choose from a number of online and offline programmes instructed either in English or in Russian. International students can apply for a Bachelor or Master’s programme by taking part in a separate admission competition and be awarded a full-tuition or partial scholarships.

If you apply for a Bachelor’s programme, including five of the eight Moscow-based English-taught undergraduate programmes, the results of your international exams in English and Mathematics can be recognized, including IELTS, TOEFL, A-Level, and other international examinations.

Bachelor applicants can take a MOCK test from home for an immediate self-assessment. Master applicants can have an online application interview and a preliminary assessment of their portfolio.

The HSE Education and Training Advisory Centre will be happy to consult applicants and their parents by email: inter@hse.ru, by phone: +7 495 531 00 59, WhatsApp: +7 916 311 85 21, or on social media in Russian or English: VKFacebookTelegram, and Instagram.
