Over Ten HSE Journals Selected for Russian Science Citation Index Project

The Russian Science Citation Index project has been officially launched. The best Russian academic journals are now compiled in a separate database on the Web of Science platform. The goal of the project is to integrate Russian academic journals into international networks for scientific information exchange. 649 journals have been included in the RSCI list based on bibliometric indicators and expert assessments.

The RSCI project has been implemented by Thomson Reuters (the owner of the Web of Science) and the academic electronic library eLIBRARY.RU (operator of the Russian Science Citation Index). The Web of Science is the most authoritative citation database in the world, but, until now, hasn’t fully reflected the results of Russian scientific studies published in Russian journals. A working group, led by Anatoly Grigoriev, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, was created in order to select the best Russian journals to be included in a worldwide citation network. Leonid Gokhberg, HSE First Vice Rector, ISSEK Director, is Deputy Chairman.

The RSCI list was formed in two rounds. First, the journals were checked for compliance with the formal acceptance criteria. Then the selected journals were subjected to qualitative analysis by experts renowned in their scientific fields. HSE was a major expert platform for discussing the issues related to the methodology of assessment and selection of journals for the RSCI project. HSE was chosen for this project as a university with its own research base in scientometrics and research expertise.

The following journals have been selected for the Russian Science Citation Index project:

  1. Business Informatics
  2. International Organisations Research Journal
  3. Public Administration Issues
  4. The Journal of Educational Studies
