‘Screen Arts. Roll Call’ Exhibition of the HSE Art and Design School Opens in Kaliningrad

The ‘Screen Arts. Roll Call’ cultural and educational project of the HSE Art and Design School will be exhibited at the Baltic branch of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Kaliningrad until July 16, 2023. The project is a continuation of an HSE ART GALLERY exhibition held in September 2022. The exhibition presents a dialogue between three generations: pioneers of video art in Russia, young classicists, and students of the HSE Art and Design School who are uncovering new possibilities in screen arts.

The exhibition area is divided into three themed spaces: ‘Body’, ‘Society’, and ‘Idea’. The ‘Prologue. Leningrad Video Art’ section serves as the beginning of an excursion into the history of Russian video art.

The project has been implemented as part of the Young Art branch programme aimed at supporting and improving the skills of young artists.

The exhibition was first presented at the HSE ART GALLERY in autumn 2022.

Participants: Ksenia Annenko, Dmitry Gutov, Ekaterina Egorova, Anna Znamenskaya, Ekaterina Nazarova, Savely Osadchy, Mikhail Somov, Yulia Starodubtseva, the ‘Blue Noses’ group, Elena Charobai (Popova), and Sergey Shutov.

Curator: Pierre-Christian Brochet—collector, book publisher, film producer, organiser of contemporary art exhibitions, TV host on Russia-K, curator of the ‘Contemporary Art’ track at the HSE Art and Design School.

Coordinator at the Baltic branch of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts: Evgeny Umansky—artist, curator, Deputy Head of the Baltic Branch of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (NCSI Kaliningrad) for creative activity.

‘Screen Arts. Roll Call’ will be exhibited at the Baltic branch of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts from April 28 to July 16.

Exhibition by HSE Art and Design School Students Now Open at Fabrika Centre

The Fabrika Centre for Creative Industries is hosting a graduation exhibition by bachelor’s students of Contemporary Art at the HSE Art and Design School. In the exhibition titled ‘Freedom of Absurdity’, the early-career artists present their interpretations of melancholy. Until March 15, the exhibition ‘Winnie-the-Pooh and All, All, All’ will be held in the Children's and Youth Department of the Central City Youth Library named after M.A. Svetlov. Graduates of the continuing education programme ‘Illustration. Basic Course’ decided to take a fresh look at A. A. Milne's beloved fairy tale by drawing incredibly colourful posters.

On January 18–February 4, 2024, the philosophy and contemporary art exhibition ‘Exercises in Conceptualism’ took place at the Gallery Na Peschanoy (part of the Moscow City Galleries Network). As part of a continuing exploration of the national cultural context, the HSE University Art and Design School and the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University, in collaboration with the Sergei Parajanov Museum and the Artists' Union of Armenia, have announced the second open international online contest for collage in animation dedicated to the centenary of Sergei Parajanov’s birth.

‘It’s Important to Combine Painting with Modern Technology’

On January 19, the HSE ART GALLERY hosted the opening of a new exhibition, ‘Majors, Minors. Aftertone’, which will last until March 10. The exhibition features works created by students of the HSE Art and Design School as part of their courses on modern painting and creating art projects using photography and neural networks. The exhibition was curated by artists and teachers Olga Chernysheva, Vladislav Efimov, as well as art critic Nicolas Audureau.

HSE Art and Design School Opens First University Concept Store

In December, HSE University launched its first concept store—the HSE ART AND DESIGN STORE (part of the HSE Art and Design School). The new space offers ample opportunities for the successful implementation of design projects and features young and promising brands from students, graduates, and teachers of the HSE University Art and Design School.
