  • Major Computer Science Festival to Take Place at HSE University

    In April, HSE University will host Days of Computer Science (DCS), an annual event organised by the Faculty of Computer Science and its partners. The programme includes popular science lectures and discussions, a student festival, a maths blitz competition, quizzes, film screenings, and much more.

  • Russian Physicists Discover Method to Increase Number of Atoms in Quantum Sensors

    Physicists from the RAS Institute of Spectroscopy and HSE University have successfully trapped rubidium-87 atoms for over four seconds. Their method can help improve the accuracy of quantum sensors, where both the number of trapped atoms and the trapping time are crucial. Such quantum systems are used to study dark matter, refine navigation systems, and aid in mineral exploration.

  • HSE University-St Petersburg to Launch Online Course on History and Culture of Russia for Japanese Universities

    A delegation from HSE University-St Petersburg headed by Director Anna Tyshetskaya has visited more than ten universities in Japan to strengthen research and academic cooperation. Among the priority areas of cooperation are humanities and Asian and African research, online training, and academic exchange programmes.

  • HSE Student Wins Gold at All-Russian Karate Championship

    The All-Russian Karate Championship took place in Moscow Region, bringing together over 2,000 participants. Dmitry Konyaev, a second-year student in the Business Administration programme at the HSE Graduate School of Business, emerged victorious in the 18–20 age category, up to 65 kg weight class. He managed to outperform several dozen athletes representing top clubs from across Russia. 

  • 'The Russian Language Has Profoundly Changed My Life'

    Rafael Guzmán Tirado is Professor of the Department of Greek and Slavic Philology at the University of Granada, Spain and founder of the first department of Slavic studies in Spain. Since 2024, Prof. Tirado has taught an advanced Spanish course at the HSE School of Foreign Languages. In this interview, he shares his insights on the essence of true vocation, the ways in which knowledge of foreign languages broadens one’s appreciation of human achievement, and the qualities that make Russian students unique.

  • First 30 Expeditions of 4th Season of ‘Rediscovering Russia’ Project Selected

    The selection process for the inter-university student expedition programme ‘Rediscovering Russia’ has concluded. The expert council has approved the first 30 expeditions, with 12 universities and 18 organisations among the winners. These expeditions will take place from April to November 2025, covering 23 regions across the country.

  • Scientists Discover Link Between Brain's Structural Features and Autistic Traits in Children

    Scientists have discovered significant structural differences in the brain's pathways, tracts, and thalamus between children with autism and their neurotypical peers, despite finding no functional differences. The most significant alterations were found in the pathways connecting the thalamus to the temporal lobe. The study findings have been published in Behavioural Brain Research.
