  • Pushkin House in Seoul Donates Korean Works of Art to HSE University

    The donation ceremony was attended by Kim Sun Min, Founder and Director of the Pushkin House Cultural and Educational Centre, and Park Jung Gon, Director of the Cultural Centre of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Russia. HSE University received two paintings by Son Jin Seok, a professor at Kyung Hee University. The paintings will now adorn the premises of HSE’s Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs.

  • HSE Researchers Take Part in Discussions at Eastern Economic Forum

    The Eastern Economic Forum, currently taking place in Vladivostok, is addressing a wide range of issues, from the development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic to artificial intelligence. HSE University researchers took part in discussions, including those focused on attracting international professionals to Russia. Bilateral cooperation agreements were also signed.

  • Fourth Urbanist Summer School: Students from Across Russia Work on Tikhvin’s Tourism Development

    How can tourism be developed in historic areas? How can the interests of residents, tourists, businesses, and local authorities be reconciled? And how can the specific context of a particular city be taken into account when developing project solutions? These were the questions explored at the Urbanist Summer School (USS), which brought together students from leading Russian universities for the fourth time.

  • Time to Showcase Your Research: Applications Are Now Open for Student Research Paper Competition 2026

    Taking part in the Student Research Paper Competition (SRPC) gives you an opportunity to present your research to experts, receive an independent assessment, and determine the future direction of your work. The competition is open to students graduating in 2026 not only from HSE University but from universities in Russia and abroad. Papers may be submitted in Russian and English, and in some fields also in French, German, and Spanish.

  • ‘Speech, Facial Expressions, and Gestures Cannot Lie’

    Would you like to know whether a speaker’s voice or gesture can give them away? At HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod, researchers are developing an algorithm that analyses speech, facial expressions, and gestures, and determines whether information is truthful with 92% accuracy. Anna Khomenko, head of the research group, explains how students and researchers are working together to create a corpus of video recordings, train a classifier, and prepare to introduce computer vision technology.

  • HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod Opens New Art and Design School Building in Historic Nizhny Novgorod Landmark

    In the year marking the 30th anniversary of HSE University's campus in Nizhny Novgorod, a new academic building for the Art and Design School has opened in the historic House of K. G. Ivanov, an early 20th-century architectural landmark located on Nizhny Novgorod’s main pedestrian street. The opening ceremony, attended by representatives of the Nizhny Novgorod Region government, marked an important milestone in the development of design education in the region.

  • Registration Opens in Russia for 12th Season of National Technology Olympiad

    Registration has opened for the new season of the National Technology Olympiad (NTO), Russia’s largest team-based engineering competition. Applications are open to students in Years 5–11, as well as college and university students. Every year, the olympiad brings together hundreds of thousands of young people from across Russia and other countries, offering them the opportunity to explore cutting-edge engineering fields. 

  • Four HSE Mathematics Graduates Win Russia’s Young Mathematicians Award

    The winners of the Young Mathematicians of Russia Award were announced at the 6th Conference of Russia’s Mathematical Centres, held in Kazan in late August 2026. Four of the nine award recipients are graduates of the HSE Faculty of Mathematics: Associate Professor Alexander Kalmynin, PhD students Alexander Zaitsev and Petr Kucheryavyy, and researcher Dmitry Pirozhkov.

  • Biologists Discover 'Molecular Fingerprint' of Preeclampsia

    Researchers at HSE University employed a new method to model hypoxia in placental cells during pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia and identified molecular markers of tissue hypoxia. Since hypoxia is one of the key mechanisms underlying preeclampsia, these findings are important for a more accurate and timely diagnosis of the disease and for the development of effective treatment methods. The paper has been published in Placenta.
