  • Time to Showcase Your Research: Applications Are Now Open for Student Research Paper Competition 2026

    Taking part in the Student Research Paper Competition (SRPC) gives you an opportunity to present your research to experts, receive an independent assessment, and determine the future direction of your work. The competition is open to students graduating in 2026 not only from HSE University but from universities in Russia and abroad. Papers may be submitted in Russian and English, and in some fields also in French, German, and Spanish.

  • HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod Opens New Art and Design School Building in Historic Nizhny Novgorod Landmark

    In the year marking the 30th anniversary of HSE University's campus in Nizhny Novgorod, a new academic building for the Art and Design School has opened in the historic House of K. G. Ivanov, an early 20th-century architectural landmark located on Nizhny Novgorod’s main pedestrian street. The opening ceremony, attended by representatives of the Nizhny Novgorod Region government, marked an important milestone in the development of design education in the region.

  • Four HSE Mathematics Graduates Win Russia’s Young Mathematicians Award

    The winners of the Young Mathematicians of Russia Award were announced at the 6th Conference of Russia’s Mathematical Centres, held in Kazan in late August 2026. Four of the nine award recipients are graduates of the HSE Faculty of Mathematics: Associate Professor Alexander Kalmynin, PhD students Alexander Zaitsev and Petr Kucheryavyy, and researcher Dmitry Pirozhkov.

  • Registration Opens in Russia for 12th Season of National Technology Olympiad

    Registration has opened for the new season of the National Technology Olympiad (NTO), Russia’s largest team-based engineering competition. Applications are open to students in Years 5–11, as well as college and university students. Every year, the olympiad brings together hundreds of thousands of young people from across Russia and other countries, offering them the opportunity to explore cutting-edge engineering fields. 

  • ‘HSE Gave Me a Space to Listen to People Who Had Built Markets and Soak Up Their Experience’

    Ravan Nuraddin ogly Novruzlu, born in Azerbaijan, grew up and finished school in Moscow. He enrolled at the University of Klagenfurt and transferred to HSE GSB in 2022, graduating in 2026. In this interview with the HSE News Service, Ravan talks about what it felt like to get a perfect score in his thesis defence, how the knowledge he gained at HSE helped him grow his listenership to half a million people, and why one should never stop learning.

  • ‘Hedgehog’ Versus ‘Relatives’: Researchers Measure How the Brain Responds to Unexpected Words During Natural Speech

    A team of neurophysiologists, including researchers from HSE University, has demonstrated the feasibility of using event-related fields (ERFs) to study brain activity during natural speech perception. They showed that this approach can be applied not only to individual words but also to continuous speech. Their findings indicate that words whose meanings differ significantly from the preceding context require longer processing times. 

  • Hybrid Intelligence: Competencies in the Age of AI Discussed at Technoprom-2026

    Artificial intelligence is not creating new professions, but rather transforming the nature of existing ones. This was the conclusion reached by participants in the panel session ‘Hybrid Intelligence: Digital and Human Drivers of Development,’ organised by the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK) at HSE University as part of Technoprom-2026. 

  • 'All Aboard!': HSE University–St Petersburg to Kick Off New Academic Year at Gulf of Finland

    On the first Saturday in September, Sevkabel Port will host HSE SPB Day. We invite all first-years, students, professors, university friends, citizens, and guests of the city to celebrate the start of the academic year at the Gulf of Finland. Attendees can look forward to more than 30 student clubs, a lecture zone, meetings with partners, an initiation ceremony, and lots of surprises—read on to find out more.

  • HSE Researchers Create New Corpus of Early Child Speech in Russian

    Researchers at the HSE Centre for Language and Brain have presented RusLan-M, an open multimedia corpus that makes it possible to trace the development of early child speech in Russian from first words to the emergence of complex grammatical constructions. The new resource will help researchers study how children acquire Russian and, in the longer term, develop more reliable tools for assessing speech development.
