  • Quantum Superconductivity and Metamaterials: HSE MIEM’s Developments Presented at Future Technologies Forum

    This year, the Future Technologies Forum focused on new materials and chemistry. Scientists from HSE University participated in the event. Alexei Vagov, Director of the Centre for Quantum Metamaterials at HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics, discussed developments in quantum superconducting electronics and the creation of high-entropy materials for energy storage and perovskite solar panels.

  • Thai Ambassador: HSE University Is Welcome at Chiang Mai Design Week

    HSE representatives met with Sasivat Wongsinsawat, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to Russia, at HSE University on Pokrovsky Bulvar. Victoria Panova, HSE University Vice Rector, Arseniy Meshcheryakov, Head of the HSE Art and Design School, and Natalia Logutova, Deputy Director of the Institute for Creative Industries Development, took part in the event. The parties discussed cooperation in the fields of education, culture, and creative industries, including HSE's participation in Chiang Mai Design Week.

  • Acoustic Battles for the Harem: How the Calls of Siberian Wapiti Reveal Their Status and Individuality

    Researchers at HSE University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, and the Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution have studied the distinctive vocalisations of Siberian wapiti stags during the peak of the mating season, when males produce rutting calls to attract females and deter rivals. The scientists have discovered how the acoustic parameters of these rutting calls reflect the stag's status, as well as his individual characteristics. The study has been published in Journal of Zoology.

  • ‘I Have Always Dreamt of Pa­rtici­pating­ in an Aca­de­mic­ Mo­bility Programme’

    Amal Saidov is a 2022 graduate of the Bachelor's programme 'Economics'. During his studies, Amal made the most of the opportunities available at HSE University: he participated in an academic mobility programme, spent a year in Spain, got transferred to a state-funded place, and participated in case championships and educational schools. This experience helped him to start a career in the Big Four, work in several countries, and continue his career path as a senior consultant at B1 .

  • ‘Brazilians and Russians Share a Unique Connection’

    Tobias Vilhena de Moraes is a historian working at Museu Lasar Segall in São Paulo, Brazil, and a faculty member of the Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences at the University of Campinas. He is now working on a master’s degree at HSE University-St Petersburg.

  • AI vs AI: Scientists Develop Neural Networks to Detect Generated Text Insertions

    A research team, including Alexander Shirnin from HSE University, has developed two models designed to detect AI-generated insertions in scientific texts. In the future, these models will assist in verifying the originality and credibility of scientific publications. Articles describing the Papilusion and AIpom systems have been published in the ACL Anthology Digital Archive.

  • HSE Project Ranks in Top 10 at StudFest Student Entrepreneurship Festival

    The ViSaver project—a service for instant in-video search, generating time codes, summaries, and test questions based on video content—made it into the top ten of the ‘I Create Business’ competition track at this year's StudFest International Student Entrepreneurship Festival. Anastasia Semenova, founder of ViSaver and graduate of HSE University’s St Petersburg School of Economics and Management, spoke to the HSE News Service about the project.

  • ‘My Advice to International Students: Be Open-Minded and Willing to Adapt!’

    Adila Ulfia Maula Tontowi is a student of the Bachelor’s in Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication. After moving from her hometown in Indonesia to France for a year, she decided to study at HSE University in Moscow. In this interview, Maula talks about intercultural interactions, how the International Prep Year helped her adapt to life in Russia, and what she’s learned about traditional celebrations like Maslenitsa—which is taking place this week.

    Lawyer Pavel Grigorev is interested in global legal issues, particularly whether it will be possible in the future to completely eliminate government interference in society's affairs. In this interview with the HSE Young Scientists project, he discusses the lawmaking potential of his PhD dissertation, medieval criminal law provisions stipulated in Russkaya Pravda, and his international internship in India.
