  • ‘Philosophy Is Thinking Outside the Box’

    In October 2024, Louis Vervoort, Associate Professor at the HSE School of Philosophy and Cultural Studies presented his report ‘Gettier's Problem and Quine's Epistemic Holism: A Unified Account’ at the Formal Philosophy seminar. What are the limitations of physics as a science? What are the dangers of AI? How to survive the Russian cold? Louis Vervoort discussed these and many other questions in his interview with the HSE News Service.

  • HSE Presents an Analytical Handbook on Africa for African Leaders

    The HSE University Centre for African Studies has presented an English-language expert-analytical handbook titled ‘Africa 2025: Prospects and Challenges.’ The handbook incorporates new data and introduces new approaches for assessing development prospects. The presentation took place during the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum in Sochi.

  • 'It Was a Great Learning Experience for the New Generation of Mathematicians'

    From November 5 to 9, 2024, HSE University hosted a five-day conference on algebraic geometry and mathematical physics, organised jointly with the Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications. Over 30 mathematicians from the world's leading universities, including early-career scientists, participated in the event.

  • 'Neurotechnologies Are Already Helping Individuals with Language Disorders'

    On November 4-6, as part of Inventing the Future International Symposium hosted by the National Centre RUSSIA, the HSE Centre for Language and Brain facilitated a discussion titled 'Evolution of the Brain: How Does the World Change Us?' Researchers from the country's leading universities, along with health professionals and neuroscience popularisers, discussed specific aspects of human brain function.

  • HSE MIEM and Nanjing University Discuss Joint Projects in Engineering Sciences

    Developing cooperation in engineering sciences was the key topic during the latest visit of a delegation from Nanjing University to HSE University. This time, the guests were hosted by the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM). The parties exchanged ideas regarding the implementation of joint research projects, educational programmes, and double-degree programmes.

  • BRICS Representatives Discuss the Development of Statistics in Member Countries

    The significance of statistics in today’s digital age has reached a new level. Many decisions at government and business levels are based on data analysis. However, there is a mixed perception of official statistics, which negatively affects trust in public policies. The heads of BRICS statistical agencies discussed this issue and ways to address it at a forum in Kazan, where a representative from HSE University also participated in the event.

  • 'HSE University Taught Me to Think Critically'

    Alexandra Kislyonkova, from Kazakhstan, graduated from HSE University in St Petersburg. After completing her bachelor's, Alexandra pursued a master’s at HSE University in Moscow. Alexandra is currently a PhD student at the University of California, Merced.   • Russian Physicists Determine Indices Enabling Prediction of Laser Behaviour

    Russian scientists, including researchers at HSE University, examined the features of fibre laser generation and identified universal critical indices for calculating their characteristics and operating regimes. The study findings will help predict and optimise laser parameters for high-speed communication systems, spectroscopy, and other areas of optical technology. The paper has been published in Optics & Laser Technology.

  • Growing Interest among Foreign Citizens in Studying at HSE University: Results of 2024/25 Admissions and Launch of New Campaign

    The steadily growing interest in studying at HSE University, particularly among applicants from CIS and Asian countries, reflects the high quality of Russian education. This year, as part of a separate admissions process for international applicants, 2,267 students were enrolled across all HSE University's campuses for the 2024/25 academic year, representing a 14% increase compared to last year.
