    On November 20, 2024, HSE University hosted the annual autumn Career Marathon, traditionally organised by its Career Development Centre. Guests could enjoy various booths with activities from partner companies, video interviews with industry experts, a cinema zone with popcorn, as well as games, quests, puzzles, quizzes, and gifts.

  • Bringing Maths and Philosophy Together: Russian-Brazilian Project Explores Logical Pluralism

    In early November, HSE University hosted an autumn school and a conference on logical pluralism as part of a collaborative project uniting Russian and Brazilian philosopher-logicians and mathematician-logicians. The project’s leaders and participants, Elena Dragalina-Chernaya, Itala Loffredo D'Ottaviano, Marcelo Esteban Coniglio, and Evandro Luis Gomes, shared their insights about the initiative.

  • Find Work with Help from an Algorithm: HSE Introduces ‘Jobs and Skills Navigator’

    Researchers from HSE University have introduced a new tool to assist in building career paths—the Jobs and Skills Navigator. This service ranks available vacancies and the corresponding skills in the context of current labour market requirements. It aims to simplify the identification of competencies needed for mastering a new profession and streamline interactions between employers and job seekers.

  • ‘I Will Soon Build the Confidence to Express Myself Well’

    Learning Russian is one of the challenges international students face when they come to Russia. HSE University helps them not only with Russian classes, but with informal events such as the Russian Speaking Club, where they can absorb the language in a relaxed and non-competitive setting. The HSE News Service talked to the organisers and participants of the club about their impressions of the first meeting and plans for the future.

  • ‘My Thesis Defence Was a Lively Discussion’

    Han Zhang, from China, has worked at the International Laboratory for Evaluation of Practices and Innovations in Education at HSE University-Moscow since 2023. In October 2024, she successfully defended her PhD thesis on the relationship between collaborative peer editing and the quality of academic writing in a second language. She spoke with the HSE News Service about why she chose to join HSE University and how her research can be used to improve student writing performance.

  • Analysing Genetic Information Can Help Prevent Complications after Myocardial Infarction

    Researchers at HSE University have developed a machine learning model capable of predicting the risk of complications—major adverse cardiac events—in patients following a myocardial infarction. For the first time, the model incorporates genetic data, enabling a more accurate assessment of the risk of long-term complications. The study has been published in Frontiers in Medicine.

  • ‘It Is Hard to Imagine High-Level Interpretation Being Entrusted to a Machine’

    In 2024, Russia chairs BRICS. Throughout the year, dozens of BRICS sessions took place across various Russian cities. As an interpreter, Ksenia Prosyukova, Associate Professor at the HSE School of Foreign Languages, participated in several BRICS events. In an interview, she discussed the personal responsibility of working at high-level events, the challenges and prospects of her profession, and how HSE University trains in-demand translators.

  • HSE University-St Petersburg Alumna Wins Prize in Korean Essay Competition

    The King Sejong Institute has announced the results of its world competition of Korean-language essays. More than 200 participants competed in the final stage. Among the prize-winners was Elizaveta Grinevich, a 2023 alumna of HSE University-St Petersburg's Department of Korean Studies.

  • (Ab)normal Language: HSE Researchers Present Digital Tools for Assessing Mental Health Problems

    Often, individuals with neurological or mental disorders exhibit distinctive language patterns. In modern clinical practice, digital tools can play a significant role in supporting language therapy and rehabilitation for persons with language disorders. Additionally, in the future, digital tools could assist healthcare specialists in assessing the severity of symptoms associated with such disorders.
