Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course is designed to provide an overview of various aspects of doing business in Europe (EU and non-EU countries). European business plays an important role in the global economy and Europe remains one of the main FDI locations. The knowledge of European economies and specificity of its entrepreneurship allows to understand business trends and setting not only in Europe, but also in the rest of the world. The course focuses on European integration in global context, EU institutions and policies, specificity of doing business in Europe in EU and non-EU countries (sectorial policies and business practices, finance, taxation, marketing, competition, regional and cultural differences in management). The course provides analysis of country and business cases, including students group work and quiz solving.

Assessment Elements

Assessment Elements

  • non-blocking Defence
    An important part of the course will be a business cases study. Students will work in groups to provide an analysis of specific business case and issues that company is facing in current time. The grade for this component of the course will be based on a presentation (including Q&A).
  • non-blocking Attendance
    Students are expected to attend all classes. They are allowed two unexcused absences without penalty. Each additional unexcused absence will be penalised as follows: One unexcused absence = 0.05 point deduction from final grade.
  • non-blocking Quizzes and review questions on content of lectures
    Student should demonstrate knowledge and attention to presented materials answering review questions and analyzing cases.
