Institute of Control Sciences seminar "Expert opinion and data analysis"

On Wednesday, November 25, the National Research University Higher School of Economics hosted an Institute of Control Sciences seminar "Expert opinion and data analysis".

Topic: The Impact of Termination of India's Bilateral Investment Treatments on Attracted Foreign Direct Investments
Speakers: Kotyrlo E.S., Kalachigin G.M. (HSE University)

Seminar leaders:
Doctor of Technical Sciences, prof. Aleskerov Fuad Tagievich
Doctor of Technical Sciences, prof. Novikov Dmitriy Aleksandrovich

Annotation:
We consider the consequences of massive unilateral termination of bilateral investment treatment (BITs) using the “difference in differences method” (difference in differences, DD) and another synthetic control method (synthetic control method, SCM). The estimates indicate that the termination of India's BITs led to a significant decrease (on average by 61.8% for the quarter) in attracting investments from countries. We also tested a number of other hypotheses, such as differences in the impact of termination of the BITs with a developed and a developing country, etc.
