Seminar "Expert opinion and data analysis"

On Wednesday, March 13, the National Research University Higher School of Economics hosted a seminar "Expert opinion and data analysis".

Speaker: A.A. Ivanov (HSE)
Theme: Algorithms for calculating the exact values of the manipulability indices of voting procedures for the case of 3 alternatives

Annotation:
Manipulation is a situation where a participant writes insincere preferences on the ballot during voting in order to get a better result for himself. It has been proven that there is no non-dictatorial, non-manipulated voting procedure. To search for the least manipulated procedures, the literature uses the derivation of formulas that give accurate index values, however, for many voting rules it is problematic to derive the formula, and computer modeling is also used, which gives an approximate estimate of the manipulation indices with some error. The paper discusses computer modeling algorithms that make it possible to give not an approximate, but an accurate estimate of the manipulability indices for known voting procedures for the case of 3 alternatives.
