HSE University Enters Top 125 of THE World University Rankings in Psychology
HSE University has once again improved its position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by subject in Psychology, entering the 101–125 cohort of the world’s best universities in the field.
HSE University first appeared in the Times Higher Education ranking in psychology in 2018. In 2020, it became the highest-ranked Russian university, and in 2021, it climbed even higher in the rankings while maintaining its lead. The university improved in almost all indicators for the subject: academic and educational reputation, income from research, publication activity, and the share of international students.
Maria Falikman, Head of the HSE School of Psychology
‘I am thrilled—and even somewhat surprised—to see how our School of Psychology has developed. In just a few years, we opened five new research laboratories, and papers by school and laboratory staff appear more and more often in leading international academic journals (Scientific Reports, PNAS and others). The average USE grades of students who enter our undergraduate programme are the highest among Russian psychology students. Two new research master’s programmes have started enrolment in two years. And I believe that with such a team, one that is continually joined by our graduates, we’ll see new breakthroughs.’
There are three Russian universities in THE subject rankings in Psychology. One these universities, HSE University, is a member of Russian Academic Excellence Project 5-100.
HSE University is in 601–800 cohort in THE World University Rankings by Subject in Physics.
Physics is one of the strongest research areas of Russian universities, and the Times Higher Education ranking in this field includes 48 Russian universities—considerably more than rankings in other subjects.
Irina Karelina, Senior Director for Strategic Planning
‘HSE University started developing programmes in physics and engineering in 2012 and, despite the high competition among Russian universities, entered the ranking of the world’s best universities in the field in 2017. HSE University now consistently appears in the ranking, and it is developing new competencies and discovering new interdisciplinary fields. In addition to the Times Higher Education ranking, HSE University also ranks in the 151–200 cohort in the QS ranking in Computer Science & Information Systems, and 401–450 in Physics and Astronomy.'
The methodology behind the rankings by subject (as well as the overall ranking) is based on 13 indicators grouped into five categories, though the weight of the indicators varies depending on the subject area.
