The programme in Classical Studies prepares experts in the history and philology of Ancient Greece, Rome, and the Byzantine Empire. Over a four-year period of study, students learn classical literature; ancient history and art; Greek mythology; Greek and Roman religion; ancient languages (Ancient Greek and Latin), and modern languages (German and Modern Greek). Furthermore, students have a choice between the philology and history tracks. Those who opt for history take specialized disciplines, such as historical geography, and the history of political, legal and social thought. Future philologists get an opportunity to take courses in linguistics, the historical grammar of Greek and Latin, and trace the history of the Greek language in the works of Byzantine authors.
