Faculty Students Have Won the HSE Student Project Competition
In March the results of the third competition of student research projects 'Scientific Initiative' were summed up. Students of our faculty Ganetskaya Elizaveta, Surkova Daria, Filippova Anzhelika, Shestakova Anna, and Maksumova Zebo (EP Marketing and Market Analytics, Higher School of Business) won a grant for the development of their own project aimed at finding enzyme producers to destroy bacterial biofilms.
As a part of the first stage of the project, the students visited the Astrakhan region and took soil samples for further isolation of microorganisms in their study. In the summer students will continue to work with the collected material in the laboratories of the faculty.
Successful implementation of the project will make it possible to get closer to solving the problem of resistance of pathogenic bacteria to antibiotics and to create a therapeutic agent that prevents infection of wounds.
It should be noted that this is the second project of this team supported by the university. In 2021 the team was developing an enzyme preparation for wound therapy, and the result was highly appreciated by the competition organizers.
The project team thanks its leader, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, Osmolovsky Alexander Andreevich for support and mentoring, as well as the head of the EP 'Cellular and Molecular Biotechnology' Yulia Alekseevna Makarova for advice and assistance in clarifying and achieving the goals of the project!
