The national symbol of Indonesia is the eagle Javan Hawk, which, according to experts, serves as the prototype of the mythological bird Garuda, widely known in Buddhism, in Indonesia.
The hawk is also depicted on the official emblem of Indonesia. The state airline of Indonesia also bears the name “Garuda Airlines”.
Southeast Asia is one of the most dynamically developing and diverse regions of the world. About 8% of the world population currently lives there. Most experts agree that in the next twenty years, the Southeast Asia region will become one of the largest players in the global economic and political arena. The leading countries of Southeast Asia took a unique path in their development, becoming developed economic systems from peripheral economies through export-oriented growth, and they did so in a fairly short time.
Located on more than 17,000 islands, Indonesia is a multinational state, the largest in Southeast Asia by territory and population. Indonesia not only has ancient cultural traditions, but also managed to catch the wind of industrialization in its very sails and transform its economic system, joining the third wave of NIS. At the same time, the country is actively fighting for the world food market, taking 8th place in terms of world food exports (2.4%).
The Indonesia Studies specialization is a unique educational track that includes courses dedicated to the peculiarities of the country's modern economic development, its political and social phenomena, as well as cultural identity. Particular attention is allocated to the consequences of political and economic reforms in Indonesia after the end of the “Age of a New Order”, especially with regard to the implementation of decentralization policies throughout the multi-island state. Students gain access to multidisciplinary knowledge in the economy, politics, state, society, institutional environment and culture of Indonesia. Graduates of the program will be able to increase awareness and understanding of this country among decision makers in the private and public sectors, the media, etc.
Third-year students study in Kyung Hee University (Republic of Korea) during the Fall semester, then travel to Indonesia for the Spring semester. After the graduation, students receive two diplomas: of HSE and Kyung Hee University.
All language disciplines are taught by highly skilled and experienced professors and native speakers. A specially developed methodology for teaching the Indonesian language will allow graduates not only to pass the international exam to determine the level of language proficiency at the highest levels, but also to acquire translation skills sufficient for interpreting as well as reading specialized literature.
