ICEF Academia Welcomes New Students

Alongside their core curriculum many ICEF students pursue a programme in which they deepen knowledge of their chosen field, engage in scientific debate, and prepare for careers in academia. This programme is known as ICEF Academia and in 2024 it opened its doors to a new group of students.

Earlier in October, the team of ICEF Academia met with its new students to present the teachers, the perspective lines of research, as well as the design and delivery mode of the courses and what rewards there are to celebrate the top-performing students.

ICEF Academia is a programme of additional training and research for students who successfully cope with their core coursework and would like to go further by doing courses that are more in-depth, as well as to prepare for careers in academia and admission to PhD programs of the world’s top universities. ICEF Academia ultimately seeks to expand its community of gifted students, linking them with some of the leading research teams.

The training process is two-stage in ICEF Academia. Starting in Y1, it has both its parts – academic studies and research – running in parallel in Y2. The academic part of ICEF Academia is called Advanced Training Program (ATP) and unfolds through sets of advanced courses and electives, the grades in which will be included in diploma. These sets offer advanced levels of ICEF’s core courses; cross-cutting courses that teach hands-on skills and research-based knowledge; and courses in domains other than, or related to, Economics and Finance.

The research part of ICEF Academia is called Advanced Research Program (ARP) and is undertaken mostly by senior undergraduates. Involving students in supervised research, guided by ICEF’s full-time academics, ARP offers seminars and workshops designed to enhance researcher skills.

At the end of the academic year, the best of ICEF Academia’s students are prized for their excellent performance with all-expenses-paid trips to summer schools.

The first to welcome the students was ICEF Deputy Director Oleg Zamkov. Prof. Zamkov noted that ICEF Academia has been running for more than 10 years now and is pursued mostly by the academically gifted students who wish to explore more.

Next to present ICEF Academia 2024-25 were its ATP Supervisor Tatiana Mayskaya and ICEF managers Natalia Kogutovskaya and Natalia Arkhipova. They gave more details about ICEF Academia’s mission and the courses available to students in each year of study. They also announced the upcoming Spring Conference for the students to join as part of the ARP part of ICEF Academia.

Two more professors of ICEF, Alexander Usvitsky and Dmitry Makarov, spoke about their current research.

Students Maria Rogotskaya and Andrey Okhlopkov shared their experience of studying at ICEF Academia and impressions of their time in SWUFE Summer School. They went there as the 2023-2024 top-performing students.
