HSE University Comes First in Russian Ranking of Entrepreneurial Universities
HSE University has taken first place in the ranking of entrepreneurial universities compiled by the ‘Expert’ analytical centre. In four years, the university has risen by five positions. This year, HSE University received the maximum number of points in the categories ‘Founders’, ‘Startups’ and ‘Investments’.
Igor Agamirzian, HSE University Vice President
‘This is largely the result of a university-wide programme to develop entrepreneurial culture, including the very popular student course “Startup from Scratch”, as well as entrepreneurship courses for teachers that we launched five years ago. These initiatives, together with the university's innovation infrastructure—the HSE Business Incubator, which was created 15 years ago and is considered one of the best university accelerators in the world—contributed to the development of innovative and entrepreneurial activity among our students and graduates.’
The authors of the ranking analysed the number of startups founded by university graduates, the number of graduates who participated in the creation of these companies, and a number of other indicators. In total, the study covered 442 Russian universities; the final ranking included 49 universities.
The ‘Expert’ ranking has been published since 2016. It assesses the success of universities in preparing entrepreneurs. Today, the demand for domestic innovations in Russia is extremely high. The activity of Russian universities in this area, working closely with companies and development institutions, can create conditions for a significant growth in the number of tech startups.
