HSE University Tops Forbes Best Russian Universities Ranking Third Year Running
For the third year running, HSE University has come first in the ranking of the 100 best universities in Russia, published for the fifth time by Forbes magazine.
HSE University has been recognized as the overall leader according to the results of a survey of employers for the second year in a row: the university scored 28 points out of a possible 30 according to the ‘Demand for graduates’ indicator. To assess this indicator, the authors of the ranking sent requests to 100 of the best employers in Russia according to Forbes, and asked them to answer two questions: ‘Which university graduates would you like to hire as a priority?’ and ‘Which university graduates do you consider the most skilled?’ HSE also came first in terms of teaching quality, scoring 12 out of 15 points, and one of the best universities in terms of networking quality (27 out of 30 points).
The ranking long list includes 635 universities. As the authors noted, Moscow universities have strengthened their positions in the ranking: seven from Moscow, two from St. Petersburg and only one regional university (UrFU) were in the top ten. The top 5 also included Lomonosov Moscow State University, MIPT, St. Petersburg State University and MGIMO.
The universities were assessed by five metrics: the demand for graduates, networking quality, teaching quality, international reputation, and the Forbes factor. The calculations used data from monitoring the activities of educational institutions of higher education by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, the results of the Forbes survey of the 100 best employers in Russia and data from open sources. This year, the authors adjusted the methodology, excluding two parameters related to international issues from the calculations: the share of international students and internships. At the same time, the metric ‘International Reputation’ was preserved — it took into account the positions of universities in some of the most prestigious world rankings.
