Cognitive Neuroscience - the First Bachelor's Program Dedicated to the Study of the Brain
In 2022 the Higher School of Economics is opening several new study programs, one of them is Cognitive Neuroscience. In Russia, this is the first bachelor's program that will train interdisciplinary specialists in biology and cognitive science. Recently, a new program was presented in a video report on the MIR24 channel.
The 'novelty' of the pregramme is also related to the fact that it studies modern developing science: cognitive neuroscience emerged as an independent field only at the end of the previous century, combining psychology, cognitive science and neuroscience. The combination of these disciplines made it possible to study human behavior and cognition in connection with the work of the brain, but at the same time led to the need to train new universal specialists.
This is what makes this program unique: students will study biology and neuroscience - the basis necessary for understanding the structure and functioning of the brain, along with cognitive psychology - aimed at the features of the cognitive process. The advantage of the program is also that it will train not just theorists - part of the training is devoted to practical laboratory exercises, during which students learn to apply experimental biology, psychophysiology and neuroimaging research methods that allow studying both the structural features of the brain and its activity. Such an approach to the training of future specialists will provide graduates with opportunities for career development as a researcher and high competitiveness in the neurocognitive field.
