Abstract

The first part of the course is devoted to studying fundamentals of physics of plasmas. Examples of plasma in nature and laboratory, as well as plasma applications, are given. Models of plasma systems are considered on the basis of thermodynamic, hydrodynamic and kinetic approaches. Particular attention is placed on collisional processes, which lead to plasma generation and production of active species. The second part of the subject is devoted to the nanophotonics and is aimed at developing an understanding of optical phenomena at the nanometer scale, i.e. near the diffraction limit and beyond. The course includes basic theoretical ideas, multi-photon microscopy, the interaction of light with nano-dimensional systems, optical interaction between nano-systems, as well as resonant phenomena such as localized surface plasmons, surface plasmon polaritons and micro-resonators.
