Best Teachers of HSE University 2020

This year, the vote for HSE University's Best Teachers was held for the 10th time already.

Students submitted their assessments online via the LMS module ‘Rate your Courses’, together with the compulsory Teaching Quality Assessments for Module 4. ICEF and HSE-NES students voted through their own system. Each student could nominate no more than two lecturers and two workshop supervisors. This year, there were new categories: in addition to traditional faculty courses, with minors and MAGOLEGO that were added two years ago, it now also announces winners from faculty pool disciplines and optional courses.

HSE University graduates can also vote. As part of annual autumn Alumni Monitoring, a link to which was sent to the class of 2019. Alumni could indicate the names of three teachers whose work and support impressed them the most during their studies at the University. The results of this survey were considered when analyzing the results of the vote.

The Best Academic Supervisors, who were determined according to the results of the Student Research Paper Competition, were also among the winners. The research advisers of all students, who were winners and took one to three places in the competition, also received the status of Best Teachers.

The main innovation for this year is the increased bonuses, which were allocated to teachers following the vote. According to the University’s own regulations and the Rector’s decree on the new academic year, all winners of the vote, who are employed as full-time teachers (at least 36 hours a week), will get a monthly bonus of 40,000 roubles during the 2020/21 academic year. The bonus for part-time teachers is set at 20,000 roubles. The excellent work of full-time teachers who have won ‘Best Teacher’ status for three years in a row (2018-2020) will be rewarded with a monthly bonus of 90,000 roubles (45,000 for part-time employees).

Lists of staff members from an appendix to the draft order on bonuses awarded to best teachers in 2020/21 academic year are available here. Several of our teachers appear as the best in several categories, but their bonuses are not cumulative in such cases.

In addition, the ‘Best Teacher’ status has been awarded to some colleagues who do not hold teaching positions at the university. Their list is published here.

These lists include currently available information from our HR Office, and may be amended in case of any changes. Bonuses are only paid to employees who hold teaching positions and work as tutors.

Further information on Best Teacher awards for invited lecturers will be published later.

Statistics on student participation in the vote can be viewed here: 2020 Voting Statistics.
