Best Teachers 2012

Since 2011, HSE students have had an annual opportunity to vote for best university teachers. Student voting is a new tradition which is being actively implemented in the HSE. Usually, instructors get to know and professionally evaluate their colleagues mainly through research papers. But ‘live communication’ with the students and ongoing contact with them reveals some rather different aspects of teaching. ‘This idea behind the vote was based on the idea of encouraging the best teachers and getting feedback from students. The opinions of students are the most effective way of identifying the best teachers’, said Vadim Radaev, First Vice Rector of the HSE. According to Vadim Radaev, ‘In first place, students put the ability to ‘infect’ students with a subject, not just transfer knowledge. Other important factors for students are the ability to use personal examples in teaching (both professional and human), and paying close attention to the students. Many of the students also emphasized that they appreciated a strict, yet fair attitude from their teachers. This year, almost 5000 students have participated in the best teacher election. About 300 teachers have been awarded the ‘Best Teacher’ title. | Election Results | |||
