The HSE Day Tradition Continues!
HSE is one of those rare universities that is open to everyone. The university began hosting HSE Day in 2012, and the event has taken place every autumn since. With this celebration, anyone who is interested can become immersed in HSE's fascinating university life.
On September 14, the Higher School of Economics is again welcoming guests to Moscow’s Gorky Park! For the entire day, the park is transformed into a huge university campus where thousands of people gather to socialize, play sports, relax, learn new things and learn about everything the university has to offer.
On this day, everyone is given a unique opportunity to see what life is like at HSE and participate in an entire array of themed events.

How to get a ticket?
If you are an exchange student at HSE, you may pick up a ticket (one per person) at International Students Support Unit (11 Myasnitskaya street, Room 301). If you are a full-degree student, contact your programme manager or student coordinator at your faculty.

It’s easy! Gorky Park is open free of charge for HSE Day 2017. We want all Muscovites and visitors to enjoy the cultural activities and have a chance to participate in the sports competitions at the event.

MEET HSE
It is here, at HSE Day, that first-year students get a sense of what the university is like and become a part of it all. Through activities like the ‘Freshmen Quest,’ a meet and greet with different student organizations, and various open-door activities for the university’s programmes of study, HSE will become a new home for incoming students.
HSE Open House
HSE Day is the only day of the year when we bring together students, alumni, instructors and friends of the university, and have our 39 bachelor’s and 135 master’s programmes on display. This is when participants can catch a glimpse of HSE student life, learn about all aspects of life at the university, and have some fun in the park. HSE Day is a place to meet new people, realize your creative ambitions, share your experiences, gain new knowledge, and feel like you are part of the university. The celebration is also an excellent opportunity to select a field of study that just might determine your professional destiny next year.
Student Organizations Tent
Various student organizations will have information for HSE Day participants at the Student Organization Tent #HseStudLife. Our guests can also look forward to different interactive games and a rich programme prepared by HSE students themselves.
Quest for first-year undergraduate students (in Russian)

OPEN AIR LECTURES
Since 2013, the university has been holding open lectures at various locations around Moscow where it welcomes people to attend free of charge. From film to marketing, anthropology to game design, the topics of the lectures are always diverse, but they are still topical and presented in a format anyone can understand. THE HIGHER SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS – A PORTRAIT
In honour of the Higher School of Economics’ anniversary, a series of short interviews has been filmed with key people tied to the university, including members of HSE’s leadership, distinguished professors and alumni, students, as well as members of the Board of Trustees and the International Advisory Committee who have influenced the university’s development.
The video interviews will be shown at the annual HSE Day celebration on September 14 in Gorky Park, after which they will be made available on both HSE’s website (hse.ru) and the university’s official social media channels.
HSE FAMILY
An HSE family area will offer entertainment for HSE staff members and their kids near Pelman café.
The HSE family programme will bring together HSE staff members, their children and guests in a friendly university family atmosphere. Different activities like sports and intellectual games will create a feeling of team spirit. A special children’s programme will include a giant soap bubble show, an HSE Lab game workshop, and other fun entertainment.

Quiz battle (in Russian)
Quiz is a game that takes the form of an intellectual battle for which people meet at home, in bars, at parties and cafes to compete in erudition and to have a good time. The game is intended for several teams of 2-6 people each.

English Workshops for children
English Workshops offer children a unique opportunity to start learning proper English. Highly professional, talented and energetic teachers from the School of Foreign Languages will use games to teach children essential knowledge and first language constructs. Adults will appreciate the efficiency of the method and structure of the material.

HSE Lab game workshop
The HSE Lab game workshop, where children can build simple electronic devices, transformers, and art objects from available materials, will be offered on HSE Day. Prizes will be awarded to winners of the contest for the best art-object chosen by an expert jury.

Board games
Board games offer a good way to have fun; they’re not only a source of fun, excitement, strong emotions, and knowledge, but they also involve communication that is valuable for people of any age. Guests will be able to play Mafia, Uno, Imaginarium, Activity, Jenga and upgrade their board game skills.
HSE Kids
While adults enthusiastically compete with each other, children can support their parents or choose their own activity, such as the bubble show, face painting, t-shirt and tableware painting workshops, circus performances and many others. The programme is open to children of all ages, and parents grandparents are also welcome.
SCIENCE BATTLES
HSE Science Battles is a project that provides firsthand information about the best student research in an interactive format. Five students have 10 minutes to speak about their research without boring presentations using only public speaking skills and props. The winner will be selected by the audience and the jury before advancing to the finals.

THE WHOLE WORLD AT HSE
This event will not only introduce students to one another, but entire countries as well. Here you will be able to drink traditional Russian tea with baranki, learn to dance the Lezginka and speak Moldovan, and learn about the different cultures represented by the international students that HSE has brought together.
14:00 - 14:30 The Whole World at HSE Parade of Nationalities
Meeting people from different cultures helps you gain new knowledge and perspectives, and gives you a new understanding of yourself and the modern world, a world where territorial boundaries and your nationality are not barriers to friendly and professional collaboration and where language barriers are lifted thanks to top-notch education systems. You will be able to get a sense of how global and international HSE has become during its flag parade, where representatives of more than 20 nationalities will walk with their flags around Gorky Park, which is its own sort of mecca for international tourists.
Russian Tearoom
Russian teatime traditions may not be as old as Chinese customs, but they are characterized by hospitality and cheerfulness. We invite all guests of HSE Day, especially our foreign colleagues and international students, to attend the Russian tea ceremony, a unique part of national culture.
Russian tea culture dates back to Russian nobles and merchants and will be demonstrated at the ceremony, among other things, through the whistling of the iconic samovar and the delicious taste of cakes and cracknels. The event will focus on international communication through trivia and games dedicated to the Russian language and our rich culture. Russian participants will be able to show their hospitality and cheerfulness, tell guests about local traditions and share some useful practical knowledge.
HSE Chamber of Nationalities
The HSE Chamber of Nationalities is a student organization that has been working on various issues for the last five years to achieve a constructive, intercultural dialogue and forge positive relationships among the different nationalities at the Higher School of Economics.

HSE International Student Association
International Street is a place where you can communicate with people from different cultures, try their national dishes, and take part in quests and quizzes on different cultures.
The association will also hold workshops on national dances, languages and martial arts (such as capoeira) as well as a variety of contests and other activities.
HSE LAND
At this game and competition zone you can have good time demonstrating your poetry skills, playing Mafia and even searching for love.

Perhaps it’s one of the most famous games in the world. If saving the city from the mafia, you can try to rescue the hotel from the Yakuza or kick the mafia gang from the casino. Just don’t forget to come to Mafia tent on the embankment on September 14.

The university is a place where you can find true friends. In the Soulmating tent anyone will be able to find a companion or even a best friend. At the tent, located on the embankment, students of different faculties will be able to meet, discuss interesting topics and even make friends.
14:00 — 19:00 Game of Reality Quest
You skipped classes for a long time so a very strict professor locked you in the classroom. You can escape as soon as you complete all the assignments you missed during the module. But don't worry – former students have left you some clues! If you think that you can handle this quest, then form a team of 2 to 4 people and register through the link.
14:00 — 19:00 Alias
If you can manage to explain 20 words ni a minute and know every card of the Alias board game by heart, then come to the embankment of Gorky Park. You’ll now have an opportunity to feel part of a famous board game: everyone will become an action figure and will move on the field, completing interesting tasks! Teams are made up of 2-7 people.
14:00 — 19:00 Activities
Visit an indoor shooting range with fortune telling, play jenga and tic-tac-toe, and put together a giant puzzle. You can play alone or with friends – it doesn't matter! Just find the Activities area on the embankment, and you won’t be bored.

Weaving flower crowns, drawing covers for student IDs and much more – here you’ll find anything that can be handmade and kept as a small gift.
14:00 — 16:00 Dance Battle
Once again, a dance battle will be held at HSE Day, but this time it will be a real street battle! HSE’s best dancers will compete in the art of improvisation seeking to impress the jury and entertain the audience. If you want to do more than just watch the dancers and join in the show yourself, send an application to our group.
16:00 — 18:00 Poetry Night
It’s pure creativity, which has become a tradition. Talented poets from HSE and their beautiful verses, recited from the stage!
SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES
Every big time university offers sports. After all, to do well in school, support one another, and be successful, you have to be in good shape –not only physically but also emotionally. Guests at HSE Day will get a feeling for HSE’s positive energy during light games and activities in the sports zone, as well as a lot of dancing.
Dancing workshops
Autumn is the time of rain and cloudy skies. To avoid depression and the worries about summer ending so quickly, everyone is invited to feel the energy of the dance!

MUSIC
You can entertain yourself all day with sports, food, and dancing, but music always has the last word. It is what sets the mood for an event, and it is thanks to music that HSE Day is so memorable and full of emotion. At the Azhurnaya Rotunda, HSE Day guests will be able to watch special musical performances, while the event’s special guest will be giving a large concert at the Green Theatre in the evening.
Acoustics Musical Playground
Acoustics is an interactive plaground at HSE Day 2017 that will host acoustic performances and a poetry reading.
Acoustics will be the centre that brings creative young people together: new friends, a special home-like acoustic atmosphere and more than 30 people of talent from HSE.
HSE performers will play covers of famous songs by international and Russian musicians, and some performers will play their own tracks.
The active part will start after 7 pm, when most guests head to the concert at the Green Theatre. The musicians will perform guitar songs that you won’t be able to resist singing along to.

19:00 - 20:30 Open-Air music with Gnessin Baroque
The Gnessin Baroque ensemble was founded in 2016 by renowned musicians and members of the most famous Russian projects in early music. The ensemble performs music of the Baroque era on authentic instruments.
The concert programme features Johann Sebastian Bach, Jean-Marie LeClair, Antonio Vivaldi and Georg Philipp Telemann.

Marina Katarzhnova, Baroque violin
Marina is graduate of Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and has been teaching at the Moscow Conservatory since 2007. She is the winner of the First International Yampolsky Violin Competition, and a soloist of Pratum Integrum orchestra.
Avgust Krepak, Baroque cello
Avgust is a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory and the Norwegian Academy of Music in modern cello. He graduated from the the doctoral programme of the Historical and Contemporary Performing Arts Faculty at the Moscow Conservatory. He is a soloist of the orchestra Pratum Integrum, as well as a participant of the December Nights Festival in Moscow and the Early Music Festival in St. Petersburg.
Olga Martynova, harpsichord
Olga, the winner of international competitions, is a Professor at tge Moscow Conservatory. She has been teaching harpsichord at the Gnessin State Musical College since 1996. She is also a soloist for the Pratum Integrum orchestra.

The characteristically warm and moving end to this year’s HSE Day will be an open-air concert at the Green Theatre that will welcome HSE students, alumni, and staff.
