The HSE Day Tradition Continues!

HSE is a university that is open to the city and its residents. The university has hosted HSE Day in Gorky Park every September since 2012, and the event has become a big celebration for everyone. This year will be no exception: for the entire day of September 13, Gorky Park will be transformed into a huge university campus where anyone who is lucky enough to be in Moscow  will have the opportunity to learn about everything the university has to offer, talk to students and professors, attend lectures and workshops, and participate in lots of other themed events.

At HSE Day, anyone will be able to find an activity to their liking. For prospective students, a big Open House will be organized, where they can learn about all the faculties and programmes HSE has to offer. HSE StudLife, an alley of student associations, will introduce visitors to the rich extracurricular life at HSE, with over 100 student clubs, thousands of events, and student government. Guests will also enjoy lectures by HSE professors in both Russian and English, quest games, academic battles, a fashion show, a big concert at Green Theatre, and lots of other attractions.

Expand all

Meet HSE

It is here, at HSE Day, that prospective and first-year students dive into university life. They will immerse themselves in the HSE atmosphere through such activities as the ‘Freshmen Quest,’ a meet and greet with different student organizations, and, of course, various open-house activities for all of the university’s educational programmes.

HSE FOR PARENTS (IN RUSSIAN)

Here, students and their parents can stop being nervous, because they’ll finally understand that they’ve chosen the best university. HSE staff and guidance counsellors will talk about the study process and answer questions, followed by workshops for students and parents.

Science & Technology

Specially for high tech fans and those with technical thinking, HSE offers an S&T venue. HSE Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics, the Faculty of Physics, the Laboratory for Experimental Urban Design, and the School of Psychology will demonstrate robots, apps, brain-computer interfaces, and other student projects, which will be available for testing.

Open Air Lectures

Since 2013, the university has been holding open lectures at various locations around Moscow where it welcomes people to attend free of charge. From film to marketing, anthropology to game design, the topics of the lectures are always diverse, but they are still topical and presented in a format anyone can understand. As part of the Higher School of Economics’ Open-Air Lectures, HSE Day will feature an entire series of informative talks in both Russian and English.

Discussion programme by Garage Museum of Contemporary Art (in Russian)

In spring 2018, Garage Museum and HSE University announced a long-term partnership aimed at the development of academic and research programs for training professionals of all levels. The annual HSE Day in Gorky Park, organized in collaboration with the team at Garage, will allow participants to learn more about the upcoming projects within this partnership.

HSE Day is a major holiday embracing all university departments that has been held in Gorky Park every September since 2012. On this occasion the park will transform into a genuine open-air HSE campus, that will introduce visitors to life at the university and enable them to become acquainted with students and teachers, learn more about the faculties and education programs, attend lectures delivered by HSE professors, and engage in workshops. Garage's program of discussions will be available at the Museum’s Education Center, where the world’s largest archive of contemporary Russian art and Russia’s first public library dedicated to contemporary art and culture are also located. The staff from Garage and HSE’s joint program will answer questions regarding upcoming education courses, Garage’s student membership, publishing program, research initiatives, and other points of intersection between the two institutions.

The Whole World at HSE

This event will not only introduce students to one another, but entire countries as well. Here you will be able to drink traditional Russian tea with baranki, learn to dance the Lezginka and speak Moldovan, and learn about the different cultures represented by the international students that HSE has brought together.

HSE Family

The traditional HSE Family area will offer entertainment for HSE staff members and their children at the Gorky Park Green School. Here, families can participate in workshops, race on exercise bikes, and drive a professional racing car in VR glasses. A special animation programme with a clown show has been prepared for kids.

Science Battles (in Russian)

HSE Science Battles is the most informal project about science, where students provide first-hand information about their research in an interactive format. Instead of boring presentations, they use only public speaking skills and props. The winner will be selected by the audience and the jury, and prizes will be awarded for the most interesting questions. The Science Battles season is opening at HSE, so come join us!

'I’M A PROFESSIONAL' (IN RUSSIAN)

The ‘Russia: Country of Opportunities’ project, which was successfully launched last year, will be presented at HSE Day 2018. Guests will learn about how social mobility works in the country, and what opportunities for personal and professional development are there for students. At the ‘I’m a Professional’ contest tent, the organizers will speak about the new contest areas and companies supporting the project this year. By the way, HSE is an organizer of the contest in eight areas of focus.

Design for Everyone

The HSE Art and Design School invites HSE Day guests to learn more about its workshop, look at undergraduate student projects, and attend a fashion show prepared by students of fashion. Designer’s T-shirts with silkscreen prints will be available as souvenirs.

Sports and Activities

In addition to studies and extracurricular activities, every major university offers sports. With numerous sports clubs, as well as its own teams in hockey, football, and even rugby, HSE is no exception. The HSE sports zone offers a variety of sports activities, from dancing classes to real sports competitions.

A sports tournament will take place as part of HSE Day. More details are available on the HSE Sports Club’s VK page: vk.com/hsessc.

Links for tournament registration will be available later.

‘5km to the Deadline’ race

How to get everything done on time? This is one of the main questions for HSE students and staff. Deadlines are like a popular idol used to frighten students even before they enter HSE, but even experienced professors know it is a dangerous rival. On HSE Day, we offer all HSE students and staff to take part in the ‘5km to the Deadline’ race and experience a symbolic victory over the deadline.

HSE Land

HSE Day is the university’s main holiday, with a very special atmosphere when each student feels like part of a big family. Can you imagine a holiday without games? For many years, the HSE Land entertainment zone by Ingrup STS has been a traditional part of HSE Day. Dance Battle, HSE Quiz, Soulmating and Mafia are only a few of the activities it offers. Join the group to follow the updates: https://vk.com/hseland (in Russian).

Music

You can entertain yourself all day with sports, food, and dancing, but music always has the last word. It is what sets the mood for an event, and it is thanks to music that HSE Day is so memorable and full of emotion. At the Azhurnaya Rotunda, HSE Day guests will be able to watch special musical performances, and the event’s special guest will be giving a large concert at the Green Theatre in the evening.

‘REDISCOVERING RUSSIA’ EXPEDITIONS (IN RUSSIAN)

Russia is a huge country, and only a few people get a chance to visit all its parts. But everyone can listen to travellers’ stories, get inspired, and resolve to take a trip. HSE travellers will share their experiences of student expeditions around Russia at the ‘Rediscovering Russia’ venue. This student expedition project was launched at HSE in 2017. Since then, approximately 800 students and lecturers have already visited Russia’s small towns and villages, from Kaliningrad to Chukotka.

HSE. CAREER. START

HSE. Career Start is an interactive venue where guests will have an opportunity to ‘taste’ their future profession, talk about success secrets with representatives of the leading companies, and maybe find their dream job. Most importantly, anyone will be able to launch their personal trajectory of success right here.

ACADEMIC STORIES: FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (IN RUSSIAN)

This year, representatives of the two HSE staff development programmes, the Young Faculty Development Programme and the Administrative Staff Development Programme, will meet at the Academic Stories venue. They will have an opportunity to talk to each other and festival guests in an informal atmosphere.

HSE Students Come Up with a House of the Future

HSE Students Come Up with a House of the Future
Perhaps, in the not-so-distant future, people will be living in skyscrapers made of wood and concrete with a farm on the first floor and solar panels on the roof. Such a model of a future residential block was presented by the students of the master's programme ‘Prototyping Future Cities’. To create the model, they studied houses in Moscow that have been built over the past hundred years and analyzed international experience. Their model was presented at the Moscow Urban Forum in July and, on September 13 (HSE Day), it will be possible to see it again at Gorky Park.
