The paper analyzed the official media of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate to study the ecumenical movement and its transformation. The goal: to trace the formation of a discourse on ecumenism and the prospects for relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Vatican in the church media, helped to solve the following tasks: 1. To define the essence of the ecumenical movement; 2. To identify the main stages of the development of relations between the Vatican and the Russian Orthodox Church in 1992-2013 within the framework of the ecumenical movement; The main sources were: "Journal of the Moscow Patriarchate", "Church Bulletin", "Missionary Review", "Church and Time", "Radonezh", "Rus Derzhavnaya", "Orthodox Moscow", "Orthodox Conversation", due to the fact that they were the most widely circulated church magazines and popular in the selected period. Quantitative and qualitative content analysis were used to study them. As a result of the study, conclusions were drawn about the transformation of attitudes towards the very concept of "ecumenism", as it has historically acquired a negative connotation, and therefore it has disappeared from use. The discourse itself has also been changed, with the terms "cooperation" and "dialogue" at the head. In view of the new challenges of our time in relation to traditional religions, despite the fact that ecumenism is no longer the main task of the churches, cooperation continues. The dialogue with the Vatican is conducted on a wide range of issues, one of which is the joint opposition to atheism and secularism. In such circumstances, it is difficult to completely reject ecumenism as an idea that simultaneously appeals to the evangelical ideals of unity of the Christian community and provides some kind of common platform for dialogue. It can be assumed that, since Churches tend to have long-term planning that goes beyond the life of one or several generations, in this regard, it is impossible to completely refute the possibility of further development of relations within the framework of ecumenism and ideas that are considered utopian today.
