Abstract

Today the mismatch of labor market and educational market is a recognized problem place in matters of training of qualified and motivated personnel in Russia. Here arouses the problem of transforming Russian society - the need to adapt to new conditions requires graduates to develop effective economic strategies, often associated with a change of professional field.

Topicality of the theme is obviously related to its predictive value and explanation power of the modern trends, necessary to boost the system of higher education and alignment of the gaps in the chain "education" - "work"

Analysis of the available literature reveals that it is the transition from education to work, which came to us from the works of Western counterparts and is better known as «school to work transition», that is insufficiently investigate on domestic data.

Thus, the aim of this work is to study the impact of education in universities on the transition of young people to the labor market, in particular - the causes and consequences of the change of professional sphere in the construction of their educational and career trajectory based on the clustering by values (wealth, social prestige, comfort, adherence to self-interest, etc.)

The empirical base of the research consists of the results of a sociological survey conducted in 2010 and 2013 within the framework of the project "Monitoring of educational and labor trajectories" at the Institute of Education of HSE. Feature of the database used is that it is not cross-sectional but longitudinal: same graduates were interviewed with a time lag of 3 years, which allowed to analyze carefully the process of education and the impact it has had on the construction of educational and labour trajectories. We traced the transition from high school to employment for each person, not comparing the responses of people from different samples, which seems to us to be an advantage of this study, providing its high reliability and validity.

The results shed light on the influence of one phase of life - on the other: the choice of university, as well as major, self-assessment quality of the education, part-time work while studying, salary expectations - on choice of areas for beginning labour trajectory and \ or its subsequent shift , the satisfaction with the colleagues, career advancement and salary, the atmosphere in the team and the desire to quit.
