Program for Generating Network Traffic with Specified Properties

The paper is dedicated to the generation of synthetic network traffic. The paper considers the existing tasks, solved by traffic generation and approaches to their solution. The description of requirements set by the industry for output results and approaches to measuring their quality. The aim of work was to develop a program that generates traffic which is similar with the traffic generated by the user while browsing the sites. The mechanism of how the developed program solves the existing threat from attacks such as "watering hole" is presented. WebKit with GTK are used for emulating page loads. Several user behaviour models were developed, which were based on statistical distributions of the number of pages viewed and the time of viewing each page. The paper contains 39 pages, 3 chapters, 12 illustrations, 3 tables, 3 diagram, 23 bibliography items, 4 appendices. Keywords: Network traffic generation, cybercrime, Watering hole, World Wide Web.
