William Faulkner and Toni Morrison: Literary Tradition and Its Transformation

In the work «W. Faulkner and T. Morrison: Literary Tradition and Its Transformation» is considered the phenomenon of the «Southern Renaissance», is defined the peculiarities of W. Faulkner's literary heritage and its transformation in the works of African-American writer T. Morrison. The originality of this study is based on the fact that this work for the first time in Russian science provides a complex sequential analysis of the influence of the creative genius of W. Faulkner on the formation of the writer's manner of T. Morrison, which includes the study of the «southern tradition» in the American literature, the analysis of the literary heritage of W. Faulkner as the bright representative of the "Southern school" and its transformation in the works of African-American novelist. After analyzing and comparing the structural features of the poetics of the novels of writers within the literary tradition as a literary category it is concluded: Morrison, generalizing Faulkner’s experience as a writer, who went beyond the scope of the southern literary tradition, that had come to a completely new level of metaphorical generalization and character image, the interpretation of the historical past, the showing of ideological problematics, becomes a writer whose work has a racial-gender orientation. She reopens the African-American history, rewrites it from the point of view of a black woman.
