Relationship Between Participation of Students in Student Organization and Social Capital

The study is dedicated to relationship between participation of students in student organization and their social capital. The sample consists of students 2-4 courses of the Moscow campus of the national research university «Higher School of Economics». We use data from the survey of Student life’s monitoring and information from profiles of students in social network «VKontakte». The relationship is estimated with using three models of linear multiple regression analyze and two models of logistic regression analyze. The results show statistical significant relationship between participation of students in student organization and their social capital, that is, number of their social ties. At the same time participants from student organization have more social ties both in their faculty and educational program and other faculties and educational programs than other students of the university have. Generally, status of student organization’s participant is one of the main characteristics of students related to quantity of their social ties.
