Job search is an important process, aimed at selecting the most suitable for a particular individual place of employment. The decision about where to go to work directly affects not only the position of the person in the labor market, but also his position in society, his status. In any case, a detailed qualitative study of the status components has not received enough attention in modern Russia, and the purpose of this study is to determine the role and content of status components for people in choosing a job. The study is based on 15 interviews with individuals who work at the last job for no more than a year. The obtained results allow us to disclose the true meanings invested by individuals in the intangible labor components, to trace what influenced the formation of their value system, and also to establish the main reasons why an individual chooses in favor of status criteria when choosing a job to the detriment of his material gain.
