Development of Software for the Monitoring System of Power Consumption in a Residential Area

Student: Tcyzdoev Movsar

Supervisor: Ilya Ivanov

Faculty: HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM HSE)

Educational Programme: Infocommunication Technologies and Systems (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2018

In this graduation qualification work, the issue of ensuring safety in the energy consumption of a home in the absence of a person is being considered. The purpose of this study is to develop a software component for a prototype of a power monitoring system at the minimal cost. To solve this problem at the development stage, it was decided to create a device based on the Arduino microcontroller using easily accessible base components. The software part was developed in Arduino IDE, which by default is functionally connected with the controller of the same name. Methods of electrical calculation and transformation of the obtained data were performed on the basis of Ohm's law and the theory of electrical circuits. In this regard, the main task is to create a properly functioning software code for a prototype capable of taking relatively accurate readings from the power line, and in case of exceeding the permissible current value, disconnect the corresponding load. Ultimately, the device was successfully tested and assembled in a single package, and with the prospect for the future, it is planned to create an improved version, which is an integral production system applicable on a different scale.

Student Theses at HSE must be completed in accordance with the University Rules and regulations specified by each educational programme.

Summaries of all theses must be published and made freely available on the HSE website.

The full text of a thesis can be published in open access on the HSE website only if the authoring student (copyright holder) agrees, or, if the thesis was written by a team of students, if all the co-authors (copyright holders) agree. After a thesis is published on the HSE website, it obtains the status of an online publication.

Student theses are objects of copyright and their use is subject to limitations in accordance with the Russian Federation’s law on intellectual property.
