The problem of job satisfaction is receiving a considerable attention with the constantly increasing interest to workers’ productivity and life satisfaction in general. Satisfaction with work is considered to be affected by both socio-demographic factors and characteristics of work. In order to determine what factors have more influence on the satisfaction with the job and what factors have a significant effect on it in Russia there was used the ordered logit regression for RLMS-HSE data of 2016. The results of the analysis confirmed that characteristics of work explain the variation of the satisfaction with work more than personal characteristics of employees. By the way, in order to get stable estimations of factors which affect changes in job satisfaction during several years in Russia there was analyzed the panel data from RLMS-HSE from 2009 to 2016. It was confirmed that characteristics of work and peoples’ attitude to them are the main significant factors influencing the job satisfaction while personal characteristics have no significant effect. Summing up, job satisfaction is significantly influenced by factors defining work and its characteristics. That is why it is very important to improve working conditions and salary levels for all industries and for workers of all levels in order to make Russian people on average more satisfied with their jobs.
