This paper is devoted to the study and analysis of theatrical performances of the Spanish playwright, Nobel Prize laureate, Jacinto Benavente’s play "Los intereses creados" in Russia from 1912 to 1941. Particular attention is paid on a detailed study of the performances prepared by Tairov and Sudakov. The aim of the work is to systematize the thetrical reviews and analyze them; to determine what exactly attracted the directors in the playwright's comedy; to compose their vision of the Italian comedy of masks; and based on the theatrical tendencies of the era, to describe the methods of artistic interpretation of the drama and to show how the attitude of Russian philologists and critics to the figure of the playwright has changed as a result of theatrical performances.
