The Interpretation of Mo Yan's Literature Specific Features in Russian and English Translation (Based on Mo Yan's 'Shifu, You'll Do Anything for a Laugh' Novella Compilation)

The present research is focused on a contemporary Chinese writer named Mo Yan, his literature specific features and the way they are interpreted in literary translation into Russian and English. The work is based on Mo Yan's 'Shifu, You'll Do Anything for a Laugh' Novella Compilation. Aim of the study is to set basic strategies of providing equal amount of author’s individual style through translating his prose from Chinese into Russian. The tasks of the study are to identify Mo Yan’s individual style features that are crucial in terms of translating; to formulate basic principles of literary translation that is based on author style; to compare Russian and English attempt to translate Mo Yan’s prose. The results of the work consist of a brief review of Mo Yan’s prose style which is inspired by his biography, life in a poor Chinese countryside, and overall Chinese classic culture. We come to a conclusion that to make an attempt to literary translate Mo Yan’s prose translator should primarily be acknowledged to the circumstances of his biography and also he should provide his own view on author’s attitude to his characters and scenes so that the translation be done on the base of these properties of the original text. The research is providing us with texts made by the author of the present paper: translation of two Mo Yan’s novellas from Chinese into Russian.
