National pride becomes an object of interests not only of scientists, but also of governmental policies. After 2013 year, Russian political reality had changed. The prerequisites for that were created in the reforms of 1990s, which were not successful. Instead of constructing national identity based on civic rights and values of civic nationalism, Russian authorities turned their policies toward constructing imperial nationalism. With imperial type of nationalism, authorities are able to legitimate themselves through the image of external enemy and success in international area. This kind of tactic can consolidate society and solve many problems Russian society has. National pride becomes attractive object of manipulation, because it may help not only to legitimize authorities, but also to compensate failures of domestic policies and economic reforms. In this regard, study of national pride and the mechanisms of its impact on the subjective well-being of the population becomes highly important. To what extent does national pride affect the level of subjective well-being of Russians? Does this effect persist while controlling for the socio-demographic parameters of individuals and other factors, which are important for happiness? For whom national pride play greater role? Does national pride indeed can compensate the impact of the economic crisis on subjective well-being of Russians? The need to answer these questions determines the relevance of this work. The link between national pride and subjective well-being has been studied on national and cross-national data. A stable positive relationship was found between national pride and subjective well-being. In addition, the relationship of subjective well-being and pride in the country's sporting achievements was investigated. However, with rare exceptions, the author of this dissertation was unable to find works devoted to the influence of national pride on the subjective well-being of the Russians. The purpose of this study is to fill this gap, as well as to try to determine whether the relationship between subjective well-being and national pride is of a causal nature.
