The History of Shanghai (1843-2019): genesis of an urban metropolis

Over the past quarter century, the city of Shanghai has attracted the attention of the whole world, with its sudden economic growth on the world stage and an unprecedented transformation after 1990. Throughout its long history, the city has not only changed in appearance, but also received the role of the main economic center on a par with New York and London. This work is a study of the largest city in the world from the moment of the establishment of a settlement on the territory of modern Shanghai in the 13th century to the present day and a detailed study and comparison of historical events that had a direct impact on the development of the city and its formation as a dynamic cosmopolitan metropolis.
