The Microdiachronic Study of Russian Syntactic Constructions with Bolee/Bolshe and Menee/Menshe

The study was launched as a part of the Taman Today project, the purpose of which was to describe old-fashioned constructions taken from the novel “The Fatalist” by M. Yu. Lermontov. Comparative constructions with bolee / bolshe and menee / menshe were under examination. The research was separated into parts. Firstly, the context of usage had to be determined with the help of dictionaries. Secondly, examples of usage were found at The National Russian Corpus. Thirdly, the changes of constructions were highlighted and described. It was seen that bolee / bolshe were replaced by menee / menshe in the majority of constructions. However, the comparative undertook these tendency as bolee / menee remained a part of the comparative.
