In recent decades, the sports industry has changed significantly in the matter of globalization and a complete interconnectedness of all processes. Sport has become an important economic, social, cultural, and even political phenomenon. However, the powers of the European Union in this area are rather limited. Moreover, sports policy as an independent vector appeared in the European Union only after the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty. Even though the Lisbon Treaty gave the EU direct competencies, these competencies are only auxiliary. However, existing research suggests that the European Union is nevertheless capable of having a regulatory impact on the development of the sports industry. This paper analyses the regulatory potential of the EU sports policy on the example of the regulatory impact of the European Union on the football industry.
