The main topic of this visual research is "Morphology of orders and medals in Russia." The study of orders and medals is inseparable connected with the topic of my diploma project: "Rebranding for the Museum of Military Glory in Ufa." My diploma project includes not only the creation of identity for the museum, but also a map of the park in which the museum is located. This study will be the basis for the designing of navigation signs, maps and other symbols for the corporate style of the museum. The purpose of this research was to study the compositional techniques and rules of constructing elements on orders, what elements do they mean, the rules for placing a text block on a plane, what message carries the color and the combination of several colors, the order of their placement on ribbons and ribbon bars. The structure of visual research was based on the analysis of many photographs of medals and orders and their grouping depending on typology and shaping. The first chapter of the visual research is a history, which explains in what period of time the award system appeared in the Russian Empire. Further division into chapters is based on the form of medals and orders. The author of this work revealed several typologies: "medal-coin," "order-star," "order-cross." A result of each chapter is a set of graphic diagrams that help understand the morphology of orders and medals. The fifth chapter provides a detailed explanation of the types of ribbons and ribbon bars, the meaning of colors and their combinations. Thus, the result of this visual research is to identify and understand how a limited set and strong rules in the formation of orders and medals give a fairly wide palette for creating compositions with various meanings and themes on a small scale that in turn it will help in the future, having a limited set of elements, to create a navigation system in the Museum of Military Glory.
