The rapid expansion of coronavirus disease has created a crisis not only in the health sector, but also in the economic sphere due to the introduction of quarantine measures. However, no systematic evaluation of the impact of these measures on reducing the growth of morbidity and the economy has been done. The purpose of this study is to estimate economic losses that accompany the introduction of quarantine measures during the COVID-19 pandemic on the example of United Kingdom. This paper also focuses on the impact of quarantine measures on such spheres of economic life of the population as tourism, art, transport, higher education and hospitality. In this study, I am looking at how effective are the quarantine measures taken by the UK government. The study is based mainly on an empirical study that explores the advantages and disadvantages of quarantine measures introduced by the state, examines the reaction of economic indicators to measures taken by the state in connection with the coronavirus by using qualitative and quantitative methods. I find that the increase in the incidence is closely related to the introduction of government bans, while the measures associated with restricting the movement of the population are of secondary importance. The results imply that not all measures taken by the state equally affect the prevention of an increase in morbidity, as well as the economic situation of the country. The implications for future research and the practical applications of the findings are discussed. Keywords: COVID-19, quarantine measures, United Kingdom, government policy, economy
