This study is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of the organization of additional education in Sunday schools of the Russian Orthodox Church in the context of state educational policy. The authors suggest that Sunday schools are more focused on spiritual and moral education, rather than on the acquisition of knowledge and skills, taking into account the characteristics of the contingent and parental attitudes. To achieve this goal, various research methods were used, including the analysis of scientific literature, generalization and systematization of data, as well as a narrative analysis of interviews with participants in the educational process. The first chapter of the work is devoted to the goals of state policy in the field of additional education for children and a review of approaches to the study of this topic. The practical part of the study includes interviews with heads of religious educational organizations, teachers and parents, which allow us to assess the relevance of additional educational programs and understanding of the specifics of this practice on the part of various stakeholders. The results of the study revealed the peculiarities of the organization of additional education in Sunday schools, which can be used in the development of educational development programs and management of educational systems at the municipal level in accordance with state regulatory documents.
