Russian Fandom of South Korean TV Series: Communities, Platforms and Creative Practices

This study investigates the features of the Russian fandom of South Korean TV series by exploring the communities, platforms and creative practices represented in the Russian segment of the Internet. The research of such a phenomenon is of great importance nowadays, given the fact that the Russian fandom of South Korean TV series has been actively expanding due to the increasing import of Hallyu media products to the Russian market. The aim of the project is to identify the features of the formation and functioning of the Russian fandom of South Korean TV series. This goal is achieved using a digital ethnography strategy. A qualitative analysis of online communities of k-drama fans in the social network VKontakte was chosen as the primary method, including typologisation of online communities and the content created by them. The achieved results of the project are: a review and typologisation of platforms and communities of the Russian fandom of South Korean TV series and identification of the specifics of fan content related to k-dramas.
