This thesis aims to study the systematic patterns and narrative functions of flashbacks in cinematic works of director Christopher Nolan. Along with Nolan's significant influence on modern cinema and his preference for non-chronological plotting, this study aims to examine closely the technical aspects of flashbacks within his films. Thus, the proposed methodology mixes narrative analysis with structural analysis through thorough work with visualized data, containing the flashbacks’ positions within film structures, creating a comprehensive approach to the evaluation of chosen narrative technique. The study utilizes qualitative methods to obtain the reasons for flashback sequences. The literature review underlines the theoretical bases of the study, which are the theory of flashback usage in film, narrative organization, and the works of Nolan in particular.
