Specifics of Covering the Topic of Charity in Russian Media

The present research offers a novel approach to analysing the peculiarities of charity coverage in the Russian media sphere. The research comprises two chapters, the first of which is theoretical in nature, while the second is practical. The first chapter is dedicated to the development of the charity sector in Russia and its interactions with traditional and new media.The second chapter comprises a content analysis of media texts about charity and posts on the VKontakte social network of non-profit organisations. The sample was formed from ‘Izvestia’, ‘Kommersant’, ‘TASS’, ‘Rossiyskaya gazeta’ and VK groups of foundation ‘Pochet’, foundation ‘Vladimir Potanin’ and foundation ‘Absolute-Help’. The results of this research may be useful to those working in the charity sector and to journalists alike.
