In recent years, the popularity of the documentary genre has increased dramatically due to the distribution of streaming platforms and the growing interest in infotainment-style content. Simultaneously, Formula 1, being the most elite motorsport championship, becomes more and more popular every year, and as the subject of a documentary piece, it represents a fascinating intersection of sports, technology, and drama, attracting a wide audience. The mini-series “Inventing Formula 1” is a product of an interactive documentary format, which is rather new to the audiovisual industry. The bachelor’s project, aimed at creating a pilot episode of a mini-series, is based on the principles and elements of interactive cinema, implementing them into the documentary genre in such a way to preserve its key objective — the representation of reality. The episode allows the audience to choose a trajectory of the story along the course of the plot, which makes the viewing experience individual and ensures immersion and involvement in the content. The goal of the project is to develop and popularise the interactive documentary series format in the media industry, adapt it to popular video sharing platforms, and educate the Russian-speaking audience about the historical development of Formula 1.
