Creation of an Audio Drama About the Life of Vladimir Mayakovsky

Student: Ksenia Buzovkina

Supervisor:

Faculty: Faculty of Creative Industries

Educational Programme: Journalism (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2024

The graduation paper of the project-creative format is a two-part audio play, “Mayakovsky's Women”, which is dedicated to the life and love of Vladimir Mayakovsky. The thesis's creative novelty lies in focusing on the role of romantic relationships in shaping the life and work of the poet, which allows the poet's personality to be revealed from a perspective that is not typically associated with Mayakovsky. The audio play's central narrative revolves around the experiences of five women: Lily Brik, Veronika Polonskaya, Tatiana Yakovleva, Ellie Jones and Elsa Kagan. While almost all of them were recipients of Mayakovsky's romantic verses, their individual fates and roles in the poet's life have not been adequately explored in contemporary literary sources. The production of the final product entailed the following stages: the study of memoir and biographical literature, the creation of a synopsis and script, the collaboration with actors, and the editing of the final audio recordings. The authors drew upon their personal memories of the poet and the women, the text of lyrical works, as well as diegetic sound and classical music. The duration of the audio performance is 107 minutes.
