In the Soviet Union, the phenomenon of carnival had its own specifics and characteristics, which differed from traditional carnivals in other countries. Carnival in the USSR was not only a holiday of entertainment and costumed processions, but also had a deep symbolic meaning. The study of the topic helped to understand what the role of the carnival was in the formation of the collective consciousness of Soviet citizens, what ideological and cultural values it conveyed, which aspects were considered acceptable and which were prohibited. The main results of the study of carnival in the USSR were the identification of its significance as a means of social integration and the formation of collective consciousness.
