Peculiarities of Media Effects in Russian Telegram-Channels in 2021-2023

This thesis is devoted to the study of the features of media effects within Russian non-political Telegram channels in 2021-2023, as well as to identifying exactly how media manipulation leads to the emergence of certain media effects. The relevance of the work is due to the rapidly developing functionality of Telegram and Telegram channels, the actively growing media audience, as well as the lack of knowledge of media manipulation and media effects within this platform. The work provides an overview of the theoretical framework regarding media manipulation, theories of media effects, the functionality of Telegram and Telegram channels. Of particular value is the extensive empirical research base, which consists of a detailed analysis of the content of 10 Russian Telegram channels for the presence of specific media manipulation techniques.
